07 Aug Industry Insights: GBTA Convention 2026 and the New Priorities of Business Travel
Industry Insights | August 2026
From 3–5 August 2026, the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) held its 57th annual Convention at McCormick Place in Chicago. The gathering brought together the global business travel community around education, peer connection, supplier collaboration and industry research. A market that remains resilient — and more selective
GBTA released its 2026 Business Travel Index during the Convention. The forecast projects global business travel spending of US$1.71 trillion in 2026, while worldwide work trips are expected to exceed 1.84 billion. The comparison is significant: GBTA forecasts spending growth of 7.2% for 2026, while trip volume is projected to rise by 1.3%. In practical terms, corporate travel managers and travelers are operating in a market where the value, reliability and total cost of each journey matter more than ever.
For executive ground transportation, that reinforces a familiar requirement: a transfer is not merely the final segment of an itinerary. It is part of the traveler’s ability to arrive prepared, remain productive and meet duty-of-care expectations. Clear trip information, reliable on-the-ground coordination and timely communication are therefore central to a strong corporate mobility experience.
Asia-Pacific demand remains important
GBTA’s report notes that Asia and Europe each account for very high business-travel volumes, and that four in five Asia-Pacific business travelers surveyed said they were traveling as much as or more than in prior years. For organizations moving people across Asian markets, this places particular importance on local execution: airport arrival procedures, multilingual coordination, realistic transfer times and the flexibility to support meetings that change at short notice.
Technology, transparency and the traveler experience
The Convention’s focus on professional development, research, best practices and technology reflects the direction of managed travel programs. Corporate buyers increasingly look for visibility and control alongside a dependable traveler experience. For mobility partners, the opportunity lies in combining personal service with clear operational information — accurate booking details, appropriate vehicle allocation, proactive updates and transparent service standards.
GBTA’s 2026 outlook also highlights the pressure created by higher transportation costs and geopolitical uncertainty. These conditions make contingency planning especially valuable. Premium ground providers can add value by helping clients adapt to flight changes, complex multi-stop schedules and cross-border coordination without losing sight of safety, comfort and consistency.
What this means for corporate mobility
The most durable takeaway is simple: business travel continues to be essential, but every trip is being evaluated more carefully. The strongest ground-transportation solutions will support that reality with dependable local teams, disciplined communication and a service model designed around the traveler’s full itinerary.
